Get the Laws Changed!
What's the bottom line? The bottom line is this model currently on a volunteer basis is being followed by local authorities, but unfortunately forms the exception rather than the rule. I therefore urge you to contact your local member of congress, your state legislators and your governor and get the laws changed! This national crisis of a lack of school librarians can literally be legislated out of existence. A cooperative model as suggested by this writer, is only one of many possible solutions, that new legislation can seek to implement. Please let's have a responsible discussion within the profession that is meaningful, along with a thoughtful polemic, because American school children need their school libraries to work for them. Remember America's school children need your involvement if they are to inherit the promise of the American dream, so please comment today. Your opinion does matter. Thanks.
